Tahoe Born Hair Products Review

Fresh, natural, and unique are the three words that come to mind when I think of Tahoe Born Brand. Hairdresser and cosmetic chemist Nicholaus Augustine has taken hair and skin care products to the next level. Each product is versatile and contains organic ingredients to keep your hair healthy and easy to manage. Below you’ll find a review of some of the products I’ve tried so far.

Calypso Sea Salt + Dry Shampoo:

Talk about volume! I’ve tried many sea salt sprays in the past and most just leave my hair dry and sticky, but Calypso does just the opposite. It smells so fresh and truly gives that “just left the beach” feel. My favorite way to use this product is on damp hair. Just a few sprits and then i’ll scrunch it with my hands to give it some volume and wave.

Calypso Sea Salt Texture Cream & Cleansing Cream:

These two have the same fresh scent as the Sea Salt + Dry Shampoo and help give my hair some texture and volume. Pair it with the Sea Salt + Dry Shampoo for the perfect hair cocktail.

Ylang, Shea, Coconut Smoothing Cleanser and Smoothing Oil:

These two products are great for helping me tame this frizz from all this Texas humidity. It helps smooth my hair and prevents me from needing to straighten it some days.

Sunday Morning Rebalance Cleanser:

The Sunday Morning Cleanser is a definite fave! Normally I’m not a fan of 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioners because they leave my hair feeling dry and super tangled… but not this one! The Sunday Morning Cleanser is perfect for stripping all of the dry shampoo and other hair products left over from a couple days before. It is a tad bit watery compared to most shampoo’s and conditioners, but I don’t mind it. My favorite time to use it is actually on Monday morning’s when I’m running late. Having only one product to wash & rinse saves me a lot of time and it has a citrusy smell to it that’s perfect for waking you up and getting your day started!  I’ve never used a 2 in 1 that makes my hair feel so clean, refreshed, and soft!

Silk Hydrate Hair + Skin Serum:

Talk about obsessed! I’ve already gone through half of my bottle and I’ve had it less than a month. This product is extremely versatile and can be used on wet or dry hair to help smooth hair, or apply it your skin to help tighten and moisturize. It smells so amazing and unlike anything I’ve ever smelt before. The serum starts off really silky and then dries quickly without feeling sticky or heavy. My favorite time to use it is when I get out of the shower when my skin feels the most dry, or on the ends of my hair while it’s still damp.

Dry Shampoo Review & Comparison

Hey everyone! Lately I’ve been really into dry shampoos and with so many options out there I figured I would pick a few of the most popular, try them out and give a break down of each product. Usually I can’t go a day without washing my hair, and having thick medium-long hair takes forever to wash, brush, blow dry and style. I know it’s not all that healthy for your hair to wash it everyday, so when I heard all the hype about dry shampoos I just had to give them a try. I’ve used 5 different dry shampoos within the past couple of months, and have given each one a fair trial. Each bottle was pretty in-expensive, around $4-$8 which is part of the reason why I’ve tried so many!

If you’re not familiar with Dry Shampoos they are basically a product used for days when you don’t want to wash your hair and you need a refresher. They help absorb oils and give life to limp, weighed down hair. They are also good to use on clean freshly washed hair for adding texture and a bit of volume, or even to use if you’re curling or styling your hair! I applied all of them the same way, by parting my hair in different sections, holding the bottle about 8 inches away and doing a quick spray. I would spray all over, parting my hair in different spots about 5 or 6 times and then I would use my finger tips and massage it into my scalp, just like you would when you wash your hair in the shower. I used each product on 1 day old hair and also on clean hair, just to see how long it would hold up before looking a total mess.

The first product I tried was the TRESemmé Fresh Start, let’s just say that this product almost made me hate dry shampoos from the get go. It was absolutely horrible and only made my hair look worse, almost wet…ew not cute! The spray itself was clear and the smell wasn’t horrible, but it did nothing to help absorb oils and make my hair look/feel cleaner.

The next two I tried were by Batiste. This is probably one of the most talked about dry shampoos on YouTube & by other beauty bloggers. At first I was obsessed and now that I’ve tried others, it’s not my favorite. I will say that this product did a great job at absorbing oils and making my hair feel more refreshed, although the smell is very strong and over powered my perfumes and body sprays. The Original has almost like a deodorant smell to it or like baby powder, and the Blonde bottle smells kind of like vanilla which wasn’t horrible, but still not a fan. They both left a very noticeable color on my scalp, the Original bottle leaves a white/chalky residue and the Blonde bottle left my scalp looking yellow. It was so bad, I would have to use a wash cloth and rub it in spots on my scalp to take away some of the color left behind. This was the most expensive out of all the products listed above, but I did not feel was worth it.

Finally we’re getting somewhere! I’ve always been a fan of Dove and Pantene’s styling products so when I saw these two I had to get both! Let’s start with Dove. This one smells really good and did a great job at making my hair look cleaner, and gave me a ton of volume to my hair which I loved and was not expecting. It does leave a slight white/chalky look to your hair, but not near as much as the Batiste Original. This product gives a mattefying feel to the hair, and if you spray too much it can leave your hair very dry and hard to brush. This was defintely one of my favorites, but because of the mattefier I felt as though I couldn’t go as long before feeling the need to wash my hair.

And lastly my new favorite the Pantene Pro V. This smells so amazing! If you’re a fan of the scent of their hairsprays then you’ll love this one! It’s very light and weightless as it claims on the bottle. This one is colorless so it won’t leave any nasty residue behind, but be careful not to over spray it’s easy to get carried away! This one made my hair look and feel so much cleaner and didn’t feel like I had a ton of product in my hair, like the Dove dry shampoo did but I still find myself going back and forth between the two.

I hope this post helped you in some way! Please leave a comment if you’ve tried any of these or have used any Dry Shampoos that you love that I haven’t mentioned. I always like hearing other bloggers favorites and suggestions 🙂

My 2014 Summer Essentials

These are a few of my must-have products that I’ve been loving this summer!
During the summer months I spend a lot of time by the pool or at the beach, and I don’t like doing a full face of makeup when I’m probably going to sweat it off anyway. The Garnier BB Cream Skin Renew for Oily/Combination Skin is a perfect substitute for my regular foundation. It gives enough coverage to hide my imperfections, while improving my skins blotchiness, dullness, and overall clarity. It also has SPF 15 in it which is just enough to help keep my face from getting too much sun.

My new favorite sunless tanning product is the Venetian Sunless Mouse by Norvell. Unlike most self tanners which use either a green or red base in their solution, this product uses a violet base so it appears much more natural looking when applied, and doesn’t give you that awful orange fake-bake look! It also doesn’t have a super strong odor to it like most do, and the mouse has a dark guide color to help you apply it evenly. I use a Sunless Applicator Mitt which helps give a more even and flawless application and helps prevent the solution from staining your hands! I normally apply 2 heavy coats all over, and it’s the perfect shade for me! I recommend you start out with 1-2 coats and then let dry for a couple hours before you apply another coat, this way you can control how dark you want to be.

Sometimes sunless tanning can make your skin appear dry or flakey, especially when it’s starting to fade. To help keep my skin hydrated and glowing all day I have been loving The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter and for my lips the Coconut Lip Butter. The scent just screams summer, and it’s packed with virgin organic coconut oil for ultimate moisture. I like applying mine right after my shower, or before bed and it just melts into the skin, and does’t leave you feeling greasy what so ever!

And lastly…. drum roll please… The Whitening Lightning Color Your Smile Lipgloss in the shade Coral Craze! These lip glosses have become very popular lately, and now I know why. I sadly only own two shades right now, the Coral Craze and Nude which is their top seller. I’m a sucker for cute packaging on products, and these glosses come with a built in L.E.D light, and a mirror on the side of the container so you can apply your lip gloss literally anywhere. Besides that, the formula is amazing! I have very dry lips that constantly peel and crack, so I normally hate wearing lip glosses but these have changed my life! They’re super pigmented, buttery, and not sticky at all, so no more getting your hair stuck in your lipgloss, which is not cute!

Hope you all enjoyed this post, please comment below if you’ve tried any of these products and let me know what you think. Also let me know what your Summer Essentials are this year! 🙂

For a flawless face

For a Flawless Face

So I by no means have flawless skin, but I have found some products that help me achieve this so called ‘flawless face’ that every girl desires to have. As you can see the foundations are from the drugstore and in my opinion work just as well if not better than high end products I’ve tried in the past, and not to mention they’re half the price! I’ve tried every brand from Esteè Lauder, Lancome, Dior, MAC, Clinique… the list goes on and on, but none hold up to the Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation! I use the Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki brush to apply it and it’s a match made in heaven. It gives the perfect coverage without feeling “cakey” and as crazy as it sounds the foundation looks better on the skin as the day goes on. I have issues with large pores and a few acne scars on my face, and this covers it perfectly while still looking like skin and not layers of makeup on my face. I also have oily skin so I must set this with a powder and my new favorite is the L’Oreal True Match Mineral Pressed Powder. It’s helps set my foundation in place and it doesn’t give that awful white, chalky cast over your face like a lot of other drugstore powders. After I apply the rest of my eye makeup, blush, and bronzer I finish it off with the Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray. It’s great for oily skin and helps keep your makeup looking fresh all day long, like you just applied it. For example, I can apply my makeup in the morning and not have to touch up at all for at least 8-10 hours! Urban Decay has several different types of makeup setting sprays to fit all skin types, I would recommend trying a sample size at Ulta or Sephora to see which one you like best.
