Tahoe Born Hair Products Review

Fresh, natural, and unique are the three words that come to mind when I think of Tahoe Born Brand. Hairdresser and cosmetic chemist Nicholaus Augustine has taken hair and skin care products to the next level. Each product is versatile and contains organic ingredients to keep your hair healthy and easy to manage. Below you’ll find a review of some of the products I’ve tried so far.

TBB

Calypso Sea Salt + Dry Shampoo:

Talk about volume! I’ve tried many sea salt sprays in the past and most just leave my hair dry and sticky, but Calypso does just the opposite. It smells so fresh and truly gives that “just left the beach” feel. My favorite way to use this product is on damp hair. Just a few sprits and then i’ll scrunch it with my hands to give it some volume and wave.

Calypso Sea Salt Texture Cream & Cleansing Cream:

These two have the same fresh scent as the Sea Salt + Dry Shampoo and help give my hair some texture and volume. Pair it with the Sea Salt + Dry Shampoo for the perfect hair cocktail.

Ylang, Shea, Coconut Smoothing Cleanser and Smoothing Oil:

These two products are great for helping me tame this frizz from all this Texas humidity. It helps smooth my hair and prevents me from needing to straighten it some days.

Sunday Morning Rebalance Cleanser:

The Sunday Morning Cleanser is a definite fave! Normally I’m not a fan of 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioners because they leave my hair feeling dry and super tangled… but not this one! The Sunday Morning Cleanser is perfect for stripping all of the dry shampoo and other hair products left over from a couple days before. It is a tad bit watery compared to most shampoo’s and conditioners, but I don’t mind it. My favorite time to use it is actually on Monday morning’s when I’m running late. Having only one product to wash & rinse saves me a lot of time and it has a citrusy smell to it that’s perfect for waking you up and getting your day started!  I’ve never used a 2 in 1 that makes my hair feel so clean, refreshed, and soft!

Silk Hydrate Hair + Skin Serum:

Talk about obsessed! I’ve already gone through half of my bottle and I’ve had it less than a month. This product is extremely versatile and can be used on wet or dry hair to help smooth hair, or apply it your skin to help tighten and moisturize. It smells so amazing and unlike anything I’ve ever smelt before. The serum starts off really silky and then dries quickly without feeling sticky or heavy. My favorite time to use it is when I get out of the shower when my skin feels the most dry, or on the ends of my hair while it’s still damp.

August Favorites

Hello loves! Okay so am I the only one that wants to know where the heck this year has gone? I swear it’s just flown by! It’s been a great Summer, but I am SO ready for Fall and everything that comes with it. I’ve put together a few of my August favorites and some new found holy grail products.

First thing is this Milani Lipstick in the shade Nude Crème. This is a peachy/pink nude that goes perfect with almost any makeup look. Since I wear a lot of neutral eyeshadow shades this is the perfect everyday lipstick for me! The next favorite of mine is the Milani Baked Blush in the shade Luminoso. This is probably the most talked about blush from Milani and there’s a reason for that. It is absolutely beautiful, and goes perfect with the Nude Crème Lipstick. I am in love with the formula of this blush as well, since it’s a baked blush it’s very soft, yet very pigmented at the same time. Most drugstore blush’s I’ve tried are powdery and almost chalky but this Milani blush is quite the opposite.

My new holy grail product is the Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser. This is a beauty blender/brush cleaner and what I love about it is that it’s a bar of soap instead of a liquid (They do sell the liquid version as well if you prefer that.) It makes cleaning my brushes so so so much faster! It comes with a custom grid that lays across the soap, the grid has ridges which helps clean your brushes more thoroughly. All you do is wet your brush, then swish it back and forth across the grid, until it lathers up a little. I then rub the brush around on the back of my hand and then rinse once more and gently squeeze out excess water & soap. Make sure to remove the grid if you are cleaning a beauty blender, because the foam-like material can tear apart, so just remove the grid when cleaning those!

My next two hair related favorites are the Bed Head Resurrection Shampoo & Conditioner and then Aquage Sea Salt Spray. The Ressurrection Shampoo & Conditioner give you that “just left the salon” feeling and they smell so delicious! I get my hair highlighted pretty often because my hair grows so fast, so this shampoo & conditioner help keep my hair healthy and my color vibrant! On days when it’s raining (which it has been a lot lately in Houston), or if I’m just feeling lazy I can spray this Aquage Sea Salt Spray in damp hair and scrunch a little to give that beachy-messy look and I’m good to go! This texturizing spray also gives tons of volume which I love! I will warn you though, it will dry your hair out just a tad bit… but hey, it does have salt in it so I kind of expected that! 😉

Lastly is one of my all time favorites from Bath & Body Works which is the Black Raspberry Vanilla Body Wash! Oh my goodness, I can’t even tell you how fast I go through this stuff. I literally drench myself in the shower because it smells so good! It’s the perfect scent for me because it’s warm from the vanilla, but still fruity from the black raspberry, a perfect combination!

Well that is it for my August Favorites. Please comment below and let me know what some of your favorite products are!

Dry Shampoo Review & Comparison

Hey everyone! Lately I’ve been really into dry shampoos and with so many options out there I figured I would pick a few of the most popular, try them out and give a break down of each product. Usually I can’t go a day without washing my hair, and having thick medium-long hair takes forever to wash, brush, blow dry and style. I know it’s not all that healthy for your hair to wash it everyday, so when I heard all the hype about dry shampoos I just had to give them a try. I’ve used 5 different dry shampoos within the past couple of months, and have given each one a fair trial. Each bottle was pretty in-expensive, around $4-$8 which is part of the reason why I’ve tried so many!

If you’re not familiar with Dry Shampoos they are basically a product used for days when you don’t want to wash your hair and you need a refresher. They help absorb oils and give life to limp, weighed down hair. They are also good to use on clean freshly washed hair for adding texture and a bit of volume, or even to use if you’re curling or styling your hair! I applied all of them the same way, by parting my hair in different sections, holding the bottle about 8 inches away and doing a quick spray. I would spray all over, parting my hair in different spots about 5 or 6 times and then I would use my finger tips and massage it into my scalp, just like you would when you wash your hair in the shower. I used each product on 1 day old hair and also on clean hair, just to see how long it would hold up before looking a total mess.

The first product I tried was the TRESemmé Fresh Start, let’s just say that this product almost made me hate dry shampoos from the get go. It was absolutely horrible and only made my hair look worse, almost wet…ew not cute! The spray itself was clear and the smell wasn’t horrible, but it did nothing to help absorb oils and make my hair look/feel cleaner.

The next two I tried were by Batiste. This is probably one of the most talked about dry shampoos on YouTube & by other beauty bloggers. At first I was obsessed and now that I’ve tried others, it’s not my favorite. I will say that this product did a great job at absorbing oils and making my hair feel more refreshed, although the smell is very strong and over powered my perfumes and body sprays. The Original has almost like a deodorant smell to it or like baby powder, and the Blonde bottle smells kind of like vanilla which wasn’t horrible, but still not a fan. They both left a very noticeable color on my scalp, the Original bottle leaves a white/chalky residue and the Blonde bottle left my scalp looking yellow. It was so bad, I would have to use a wash cloth and rub it in spots on my scalp to take away some of the color left behind. This was the most expensive out of all the products listed above, but I did not feel was worth it.

Finally we’re getting somewhere! I’ve always been a fan of Dove and Pantene’s styling products so when I saw these two I had to get both! Let’s start with Dove. This one smells really good and did a great job at making my hair look cleaner, and gave me a ton of volume to my hair which I loved and was not expecting. It does leave a slight white/chalky look to your hair, but not near as much as the Batiste Original. This product gives a mattefying feel to the hair, and if you spray too much it can leave your hair very dry and hard to brush. This was defintely one of my favorites, but because of the mattefier I felt as though I couldn’t go as long before feeling the need to wash my hair.

And lastly my new favorite the Pantene Pro V. This smells so amazing! If you’re a fan of the scent of their hairsprays then you’ll love this one! It’s very light and weightless as it claims on the bottle. This one is colorless so it won’t leave any nasty residue behind, but be careful not to over spray it’s easy to get carried away! This one made my hair look and feel so much cleaner and didn’t feel like I had a ton of product in my hair, like the Dove dry shampoo did but I still find myself going back and forth between the two.

I hope this post helped you in some way! Please leave a comment if you’ve tried any of these or have used any Dry Shampoos that you love that I haven’t mentioned. I always like hearing other bloggers favorites and suggestions 🙂
